Remote Drive F1 Car
A remotely driven F1 car used for the crash scene in F1 The Movie
Filming of the crash scene in F1 The Movie used a remotely driven, custom built F1 car. I designed and built the radio interfaces, the driver’s controls and custom user-interfaces. On set I was SFX Technician for the RF and remote-drive systems. I also designed and built the electronics inside the F1 steering wheel and designed a GPS based speedometer which interfaced to steering wheels in the real F1 cars.
Key points:
- Fail safe system
- Full high speed vehicle control
- Highly responsive, with remote driver feedback through the steering wheel.
- Fully customizable.
- On time, on budget, worked flawlessly during rehearsals and shooting.
